Pillar started in 1998 in Hays, Kansas while the band members were still in college. In 2000, they relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Pillar has a hard-hitting modern hard rock sound. Their lyrics combine clear Christian messages and biblical principles with modern-day life.

The current band members are Rob Beckley - lead vocals and rhythm guitar; Michael "Kalel" Wittig - bass guitar; Noah Henson - lead guitar and backing vocals; and Lester Estelle II - drums and backing vocals.
